On June 5th at the Worldwide Developers Conference  2017, Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO announced the updates for iOS 11, he said this version takes the best and most advanced operating system and take Apple’s operating system to the next level, bringing in new subtle designs and new looks to some of the standard apps are a part of the updates.

Apple is a technology giant for good reason, they have created and maintained an operating system that has taken the world by storm, iPhone users are quick to denigrate other phones as they see Apple products in general as superior to anything currently on the market. Smartphone & Tablet Purchases Exceed 1.2 Billion Dollars on Black Friday through Mobile Commerce

In the past, we have written blogs about the growing number of mobile users that rarely use desktops to access the web. This past Friday on November 25th, 2016 an astonishing number was reached with mobile app purchases, US shoppers purchased $1.2 billion dollars through mobile transactions on Black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the year. That is not the only milestone that was reached on Thanksgiving, but Online shopping increased 21 percent to $3.34 billion in sales surpassing last year’s number in online sales, which was $3 billion in online sales. In the US by the end of Black Friday shoppers spent $5.27 billion.

Bank Rate reported only 23 percent of US consumers said they planned to shop in stores after Thanksgiving this year, compared with 28 percent last year. By the way, Adobe said the five top-selling electronic products on Black Friday were Apple’s iPads, Samsung’s 4K TVs, the Apple MacBook Air, LG’s TVs and Microsoft’s Xbox.

Google’s Update to its Gmail App for iOS

Google has just released its updated Gmail and Calendar app for iOS to the Apple store. This is a big update for IOS users, because of the huge number of people that use Gmail for personal and professional use. The New iPhone 7 is Packed with Innovations

Apple finally announced the latest, advanced and most powerful iPhone ever made, iPhone 7 & 7 Plus. The company touted all the new innovative features of the devices, the sleek new design, the new iPhone 7 design starts with new Glossy Black color variant, called Jet Black, it is high glass finish, iPhone 7 is also available in, gold, silver and rose gold.

The 2nd upgrade is a redesigned Home button, it is more sensitive and added Taptic Engine which provides more responsive and an incredible feel, that third party applications can take advantages of Taptic Engine API for creating new feelings and use experiences. The third is water and dust resistance, the new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus come standard with IP67 protection standards, this means the new iPhone is safe even if dropped it in water.

The 4th upgrade is An entirely new camera, there are huge advancements for photography with phones, adding optical image stabilizers to help shaking-hands, larger ƒ/1.8 aperture lenses and a six‑element lens for a sharp image in low light. And with advanced new features like wide color capture for more vibrant pictures. It comes with Quad-LED True Tone flash with flicker sensor, that flickers artificial lighting to improve image quality. Apple also designed an image signal processor which performs multiple operations while taking each picture.

The iPhone 7 plus has two cameras to take quality pictures even in zoom, those are 12 MP cameras, one is a wide angle 28mm lenses the same as the iPhone 7 and the other telephoto with 56mm lens. Also added is a sneak peek feature that provides depth of field capabilities which makes a beautiful blur to the background of an image like photography in DSLR cameras.

The 5th is Retina HD display, that cinema p3 standard color management with 3D touch layer. The 6th is a built-in New stereo speaker system, it is twice as loud as the iPhone 6s and has increased dynamic range. The 7th are Earpods. This time, there is no 3.5mm jack, the new iPhone connecting earpods with lightning only. Ther 8th is AirPods, it is Wireless, Effortless, and Magical. Apple designed a new W1 chip to produce intelligent high-efficiency playback and reliable connections. Added infrared sensor to detect when each AirPod is in your ear, so they only play once you are ready to listen, motion accelerometer for more features like double-tapping to lift the call. W1 chip also enables intelligent connection to allow you to instantly switch between apple devices.

The9th is Apple Pay, that keeps all your credit cards and loyalty cards safe and secure on Apple wallet. The 10th is a new generation quad-core A10 Fusion chip, it performs faster, more efficiency and has improved graphics.  

However, there were some more aspects of the new iPhones that the company did not reveal during the event. iPhone 7 has 2GB of RAM, which is the same as the Apple iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. As we mentioned above iPhone 7 is IP67-certified but as per the device’s official product page, liquid damage is not covered by the warranty. The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus also come with NFC. And new Apple iPhone has a range of new capabilities with every release but this time, the most impressive capabilities are not related to the new iPhone role as communications devices.

This time, Apple focuses on only software, no new hardware has been released. At WWDC 2016 Apple announced latest updates and features primarily on iOS, MacOS, tvOS and watch OS.

iOS 10: iOS 10 features started with a redesigning Lock screen, includes 3D-touch, notifications that enable access to more information, easily accessible camera, and new widgets. Control Center also has been redesigned with the support of 3D Touch and a wake-up feature that wakes up the screen without bypassing notifications. iphone Siri can do a lot more in iOS 10. An updated Siri allows developers to build Siri support into their apps so that we can now ask Siri to do more things with third party apps like a Uber to book a ride or WhatsApp to send a message.

Messages have been updated with new features like background animations, bubble effects, sketching feature, which also was introduced on the Apple Watch, this feature allows users to create drawings. A predictive emoji feature that can suggest words in the message to replace emoji’s, by tapping on selected emoji, that word will replace the emoji automatically. Message app has its own Message App Store in this update, so iOS developers can create iMessage apps that can be used and improve Message app with unlimited capabilities. Message app can now send stickers and GIFs to order dinner and make payments.

And Apple added a dedicated Home app to operate multiple HomeKit devices, Photos app improved the recognition feature. Map and Music apps also have redesigned.

Watch OS 3: watchOS 3 is a significant update, introducing new apps, new watch faces, and impressive performance improvements. According to Apple, it is going to feel like a whole new watch. Navigation has been improved, with left and right swipes now used to change the iwatch face.

Activity sharing is new in watchOS 3, allowing Apple Watch owners to share their workout and activity information with friends to compete with each other  stay motivated. New activity-based Smart Replies in the app are available to communicate with friends and family over activity achievements. There are settings in the Activity app to customize workouts and activities for wheelchair users, with wheelchair pushes contributing to all-day calorie goals.

A new Breathe app is designed to guide Apple Watch owners through daily deep breathing sessions to cut down on stress and induce relaxation, and there are also new Reminders and Find My Friends Apps. There are three new watch faces, including Minnie Mouse, simple numerals face, and an Activity face that shows activity rings plus more faces can work with complications.

An SOS feature will automatically call emergency services when the side button pressed, no matter where you are in the world, and the Apple Watch can now be used to unlock a password protected Mac’s with new Continuity functionality.

The Messages app redesign makes it quicker to reply to incoming texts, and a new “Scribble” feature allowing you to write on the Apple Watch face with a finger.


AngularJS: The Platform to Create Amazing Web Apps

AngularJSThere are millions of websites and web apps, but the time it takes to create them can be countless. AngularJS makes it easier to create single page web applications. “AngularJS is what HTML would have been, had it been designed for building web-apps.”

Developed by Misko Hevery at Brat Tech LLC in 2009, originally sought to create a software behind that would have been priced by the megabyte. This was to create a easy-to-make applications for the enterprise. He launched the website and only had a few subscribers before he and his partner abandoned their business and decided to release AngularJS as a open source library.

However, many updates were created mainly by Google, it aims to simplify both the development and testing of web apps. This is done by creating a client side model view controller (MVC). A MVC is a way to implement user interfaces on computers. It separates internal representations of information from the ways the information is presented to the user. It also uses model-view-viewmodel or MVVM. MVVM separates development of graphical user interfaces from the development of back end logic.

In simple terms, according to the AngularJS site, “AngularJS lets you extend HTML vocabulary for your application. The resulting environment is extraordinarily expressive, readable, and quick to develop.” It lets users create an engaging website/web application, without the struggles of HTML.

AngularJS is suited for most application development projects and is fully extensible. It works well with other libraries too. This is because every feature can be replaced or modified to fit your project’s workflow.

AngularJS is used on websites such as Walgreens, NBC, Sprint, ABC News, and Wolfram Alpha. In addition, 8400 more sites out of 1 million tested in July of 2015 were also using AngularJS. This was according to Libscore, a Java analytics service.

In addition to AngularJS, there is Angular Material and Angular Design. Angular Material is  “the reference implementation of Google’s Material Design Specification.” So what exactly is Material Design? It is a specification of motion, visual, and interaction design that adapts across different devices. This means that you do not have to create different applications for different platforms or screen sizes.

Angular Designs Goals:

  • Provide structure of building applications. This includes the UI, code, and testing
  • Decouple the client side of an application from the server. Development of work is progress is parallel
  • Decouple Document Object Model manipulation from the application logic.AngularJS has revolutionized the way we create web apps. Enterprise IT in the Mobile Era

Back in the 80s we saw IBM change the world with desktop computers with more power than the older mainframes. During the 90s we saw the dot-com movement and a mass migration from the traditional systems to browsers and web-based applications. Now, more than a decade later, we are witnessing another paradigm shift in enterprise. With enterprise applications running on a phone or tablet, the IT team will ultimately be in control of that device.

This decade – 2010 and beyond – is the “Mobile Era.” With advancements in connectivity that far exceed the capability of yesterday’s Blackberry, IT teams and CIOs will have to expand their mobile device management strategy to meet the technological needs of their employees.

Building on Siri – The Future of Mobile Software Development

Siri, the voice in the latest iPhone, is a great start for Apple. It’s been successful, probably beyond their expectations. This has made them even more protective in their drive to prevent “jail breaks” – that’s what the development world calls efforts to open up, or gain access to, the operating system so they can run software and do other things not authorized by Apple. With so much at stake, and with those efforts to break through the defenses so relentless, Apple is vigorously defending its technology, using every tool and technique available.  For example, Apple filed a suit recently against Samsung for infringing on four patents, including Siri’s “voice search.” Sooner or later though, Apple will have to yield and open up a bit. When they do, developers will rush to add Siri’s voice recognition features to their applications.

That voice recognition capability is part of a field called natural language processing or NLP, and its potential goes far beyond the usefulness we’ve seen to date. The way it works is straightforward in principle, if not so much in programming. What happens when you say something like “Please call my Mom,” or “Call Mom,” or something similar? The software recognizes the words “call” and “Mom” and links them. Same thing if you say, “Dial Mom.” The software recognizes nouns and verbs and their synonyms and responds by taking a specific action.

There are many ways this idea can be expanded upon. Right now you have to press a button to activate the software, but you could have a sound activated system that monitors a room and takes a specific action whenever a certain word or sound is heard. It could be in a secure area; it could be in a nursery; or it could be in a conference room. The system could be flexible enough to adapt itself to a complicated spoken command such as “Listen for the phrase xyz, then calculate the latest values for factors 1, 2, and 3. Display the results on the conference room monitor.” The possibilities are endless. Think Star Trek and the voice controlled systems on the Enterprise. They’re always on, always listening, and always responding.

You can extend the notion even further. Cell phones were getting smaller until touch displays and video cameras came along. Then they had to get bigger in order to have a useable display. But, suppose you didn’t have to scroll through apps to find the one you wanted? You could just tell your phone what you wanted or where you wanted to go, and it would sort through the hundreds of apps, find the one corresponding to your needs, activate it, and report/display the results to you. It could also keep track of your location and surroundings and give you a running commentary and make informed suggestions based on your transaction history and interests. Face it, sooner or later your phone will shrink to pen size or smaller, maybe even become part of your body as an implanted micro device.

Or, you might combine NLP with very flexible LCD displays descended from the flexible displays that tech companies like Nokia and Samsung are working on. Then you’d have a screen you could unroll when you need a face to face with someone or want to view content the way you might view it on a TV, magazine, or newspaper. It’d be something like the old-fashioned book scroll you see in period pieces, or even more compact when it’s time to put it away. That’d fit right in with the pen analogy.
