Should you use libxml over NSXMLParser?
Apple has a very good example XML Performance showing the advantages between the two,

Here are some thoughts,
- with libxml you have to dabble in C a little bit and pass the data back to Objective-C code.
- with libxml you can parse while you are downloading the data in parallel. Useful for large data.
